Spectrum Big Band has established a very high reputation as a first class big band, playing music from a wide range of styles including big band favourites, jazz, swing, latin and rock. Entry to this band is through audition only. See a list of corporate engagements and feedback from clients or our current play list.

rehearses on Monday
nights from 7:30pm until 9:30pm at the bandrooms, 49 Phillip Avenue,

Music Director - Spectrum: Adam MatthewsBorn in Canberra, Adam took an early interest in music learning the guitar for a number of years then taking up the saxophone in 1990. Having been educated at Radford College he was accepted to the Canberra School of Music in 1996 to study jazz saxophone. During this time he worked as a freelance musician locally and internationally playing styles ranging from jazz, latin and rock, as well as performing with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra and various chamber music ensembles. Upon joining the
Australian Army Band
Corps in 2002, he was posted to the Australian Army Band Sydney where,
under
the leadership of Major Geoff Grey, he was featured in the ARIA
nominated
recording Camouflage, and Salute to the Aussie Digger which both
raised more than $60,000 for Legacy. In 2002 he was deployed to East
Timor and
later to the Solomon Islands in 2004 to help maintain morale and esprit
de
corps for Australian troops. In 2003 the Unit was awarded a Chief of
Defence
Force Commendation for services to both the Australian Defence Force
and the
wider community. In 2006 he was posted to the Band of the 1st
Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment in Townsville where he was
promoted to
Corporal. The following year was posted to the Band of the Royal
Military
College taking up the role of saxophone section leader. In June 2009 he
was
promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Spectrum on air!Spectrum
were lucky enough to be played on Macca's Australia All Over radio show
on Sunday 30th May 2004. Macca played "Tuxedo Junction", recorded at a
concert at Dick Smith's rural home. For your convenience, it can be
